In short: a commercial airline is the cheapest way to fly between big airports. A private charter costs more, but you choose the time, the route and who flies with you, and you can land much closer to where you are going. In Palawan, that means landing on the water in front of your resort instead of a long road or ferry transfer.

When a commercial flight makes sense

If you are flying between two big cities, on a normal schedule, and price matters most, take the airline. Book a seat, pack your bags, and accept the airport routine: arriving early, security lines, waiting at the gate and at the baggage belt, and the occasional delay or cancellation.

The limit is where airlines go. They only fly to main airports, and in an island country like the Philippines, the airport is often hours away from where you actually want to be.

When a private charter makes sense

  • Time is worth more than the ticket price. You fly when you want and skip the queues.
  • Your destination has no airport. A seaplane lands on the water, close to the beach, resort or yacht.
  • You travel as a group or family. The price is for the aircraft, so it is shared between everyone on board.
  • You want privacy. No other passengers, and the plan is built around you.

What does a private charter cost?

Worldwide, private charter is priced per flight hour, roughly from US$1,000 per hour for small piston and turboprop aircraft to US$5,000 per hour for a midsize jet, and five figures per hour for long-range luxury jets. Fuel, positioning, landing fees and taxes are often extra, so always ask for an all-inclusive quote.

At Horizon Sun Charters, we quote one clear price for your trip. Scenic flights over Palawan start at ₱50,000 for 30 minutes.

Luggage, children and special items

On a private flight, you agree what you bring with the operator. Every aircraft has a weight limit for passengers and luggage together, and a seaplane is no different, so tell us about your bags and any special items (dive gear, camera equipment, surfboards) when you book. Children are welcome. If you want to bring a pet, ask us before booking.

Is private safer than commercial?

Both can be very safe. What matters is the operator. Not every charter company works to the same standard, and the cheapest price can mean poorly maintained aircraft or inexperienced pilots.

At Horizon Sun Charters, our maintenance uses genuine parts and follows strict procedures, and our people are trained to the same standard. Every flight is followed by our flight-following team and tracked by GPS from takeoff to landing.

Questions people ask

Is a private charter more expensive than a commercial flight?

Yes, per person it usually is. But you pay for the whole aircraft, so the cost is shared by your group, and you save hours of travel and transfers.

Can a private plane fly where airlines don't?

Yes. Private aircraft use small airstrips, and a seaplane can land on the water, close to beaches and island resorts with no airport.

How early do I need to arrive for a private flight?

Much less than for an airline. There are no check-in queues; you arrive shortly before departure and board with your group.
